Flying Brick Racing: Club News

Midway through the season, BRICKS take the lead!

Matt Roderick, 2021

Marc Burtchtorf parked "The Horseshoe" on the dance floor and lead the BRICKS into FIRST FREAKIN' PLACE in the Silver Cup points chase.  This race saw four BRICKS make it into the late rounds in bracket two and many others contribute significant points.  Only 61 points separate first and third place so as the Idaho sun bakes our tails, the points chase is only just heating up.  It's hard to believe only three races remain, can we capitalize on this momentum?  Stay tuned...   GO BRICKS!

Our site returns with Championship news and  exciting new challenges

Matt Roderick, 2021

The Flying BRICK website is back and with a couple of MEGA ULTRA HUGE updates.  First and foremost, I'm incredibly happy to announce The Flying BRICKS are 2020 Bronze Cup Champions!!  2020 was a challenging year for everyone.  Many racers around the country didn't even have a season.  We're thankful that Firebird Raceway found a way to keep everyone safely competing.  The BRICKS got off to a fast start and never looked back, leading the way all season.  You can check out the CHAMPIONSHIP acceptance speech here-> https://youtu.be/0os_ZCz48C8 Gosh, that dude is handsome...

Now, looking ahead to the 2021 season, the BRICKS and our sister team, Rapid Expansion decided to merge back into one, united team and compete for the coveted, Silver Cup Championship.  This will be a monumental challenge as we compete against some tough, experienced drag racers.  Not to worry, we'll send every amateur weekend warrior we've got to scare the heck out of the Silver Cup stalwarts like Melba, Kuna, and the Barons.  More to come from this exciting season of racing, GO BRICKS!

Its cold in Idaho but things are heating up...sorta

Matt Roderick, 2016

It's that time of year, its cold outside, the wether is lousy and Hot Rod Magazine puts out their obligatory "Paint and Body Secrets" issue. Following the conclusion of the 2015 Club Challenge, it seems most the bricks took a couple months to relax and recoup.  But racing season is coming and the time has come to dust off some wrenches and reload for 2016!  Could this be the season that Flying Brick returns to it's chapionship level beginings? The momentum from the end of last season certainly suggests so.  Racer Justin Cirelli (finally) figured out how the tree works and made a deep run in the Halloween Classic. Then, just a couple of weeks later, Brady Jesser took the Blue Thunder S10 pickup all the way the FINALS at the SCSN in Las Vegas.  Bolstered by the late season success, several Bricks took on some pretty exciting off season projects.  Here's a little of what the Bricks have been up to...

Jason Shipp Does it again and the Chevelle Returns!

Matt Roderick, 2015

Jason Shipp cruises to another bracket four victory at Club Challenge stop number five.  After the win, Jason was quoted as saying "Dude!"

Jason has tirelessly put the team on his back this season.  Offers for a back rub were, however, rejected.

After a two-year garage nap, the Chevelle returns to the track! Sporting tons of new equipment, team captain Josh Cirelli piloted the new combo to a personal best of 11.32 @ 122MPH.  Unfortunately, Electrical gremlins ended the fun early.

The Sun Sets on Flying Brick's Third Seaon

Matt Roderick, 2015

The Club Challenge season has come to a close.  Good times were had by all, especially our opponents!  The points championship fell out of reach for the Bricks this year but hopes are high for next year.  Several Brickers who struggled early in the season got it figured out at the last race and finished strong. Bracket five racers Jenn and Angela Cirelli, Jerry Peterson, and Lee Dougal all posted multiple round wins.  Club points leader, Jason Shipp made an early, first round exit but It should be noted, that was his ONLY first round loss of the year! That, along with his two bracket four victories made for a damn good season! This season also brought new members, one of which was FIRST TIME racer Amber Wong.  The learning curve of bracket racing is steep but Amber seems up to the task, that is, if she can see over the dashboard...

Someone famously said "To appreciate victory you must experience defeat." Unfortunately, that a$$hole was correct!  Flying Brick will no doubtedly go into next season, focused, hungry and maybe even sober...ish.

Another Wild Night of Racing as the Club Season Passes Half Way

Matt Roderick 2015

The Dirty Banana comes up JUST short in the final round at Club Challenge #4.  With back to back final round appearances, Flying Brick's season might have turned a corner, which is usually not recommended in drag racing...

Anyway, Just 51 points separates 4th place Flying Brick from 2nd place PSI.  With two events to go, its anyone's race.

Congrats to FIRST TIME racer Amy Scrima who wheeled the Cavalier to her first round win.

At that pace, she'll be ahead of her husbamd in no time!

Perhaps the upcoming Street Mcahine Shoot Out will reset some odometers and get the Bricks back to our usual kickassery!

Jason Shipp Brings Home a Bracket Four Victory!

Matt Roderick 2015

Jason Shipp brought home an incredible vicotry at the Club Challenge stop #3.  Individually, Jason leads his teammates in points by more than double.  Not sure if that speaks to how great Jason is doing or how much the rest of us should step up our games...  To top off the night, the Shipps finally revealed that they're having a BOY!  Us Flying Bricks are multiplying!

All this celebration more than made up for Flying Brick's slip in the points standings.  I'm not sure if it was a heroic effort by the Kuna team or if Firebird raceway switched to common core math but it seems we've slipped to fourth place in the standings.  It's not looking good for the home team folks!  To quote the greatest "American Pie 2" character, "Efforts must be doubled"

I say Flying, you say BRICK!

The Quest for a Three-Peate is on in 2015!

Matt Roderick 2015

The 2015 race season is officially under way.  After two club challenge events, Flying Brick is closing in on 2nd place in the points.  Currently, Mopar Mafia leads with 399 points, followed by Bronze Cup new comers, PSI with 319.  Flying Brick sits at a respectable 289 points.  Club President, Josh Cirelli has already tripled his round-win total from last seaon of one!  With four races left in the series, Flying Brick has some work to do.  As usual, the Bricks will try to close the gap to win a third Bronze Cup championship in a row.  Being unofficially sponsored by Bud Light may or may not help our chances.  One thing's for sure, we won't be premature!  (To leave the track, that is, because we're drinking in the pits...)

GO BRICK!!

Flying Brick Gets in Final Test and Tune Sesh

Tim Shiffer September 2014

On Saturday, September 13th several Flying Brick members drove their rides down to Firebird to get in one last test and tune before the big end of season finale, the Fairly Reliable Bob’s Club Challenge series on Sept 19th. Reports from the track that day were mostly good, with the exception of one particular restroom mishap (we shall not mention any names), all racers left the track feeling fresh and clean… and more importantly, feeling more confident about the club challenge finale. A few photos were snapped on camera phones to document the occasion, if you’re interested in checking those out, please click the link below to be whisked away to that gallery. Good luck on the 19th guys and gals, let’s take home our second consecutive club championship!

After a long absence from the drag strip we at Flying Brick Racing are excited to announce that Corey Scrima will finally be retiring his late model Chevy Cavalier in favor of his beloved 1967 Ford Mustang. This exciting news broke late Sunday night, August 17th, 2014.

Please join us in not only welcoming Corey back to the track as a “bonafide” racer again, but also in asking him what the heck took so long?!
